Our historic Black-owned pediatric practice in Miami has proudly served families of all backgrounds for over 70 years. Founded by Dr. Dazelle D. Simpson, Florida's first board-certified Black pediatrician in 1953, we broke barriers during an era of segregation to provide excellent pediatric care to those who needed it most. Today, Dr. Rozalyn A. Paschal-Thomas continues this proud legacy, welcoming all families—Black, Hispanic, White, Asian, Caribbean, and beyond—throughout Miami Gardens, North Miami, South Miami, and all of Miami-Dade County.

Dr. Rozalyn A. Paschal-Thomas, M.D.
Pediatrician | Current Practice Leader
Dr. Paschal-Thomas is a pediatrician serving Miami families of all backgrounds since 2009. She earned her medical degree from the prestigious University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
As the third generation of this historic Black-owned pediatric practice, Dr. Paschal-Thomas carries forward a legacy of excellence while welcoming all families—regardless of race, ethnicity, or background. She specializes in comprehensive newborn care, well-child visits, developmental screenings, and culturally sensitive family counseling.

Practice Leader (1977-2020) | Pioneering Pediatric Care for All
The late Dr. Rozalyn H. Paschal dedicated her career to providing exceptional pediatric care to all families in Miami, continuing the groundbreaking work of Dr. Dazelle D. Simpson. She earned her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine (1975) and completed her residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
In 1977, Dr. Paschal joined the practice of Dr. Dazelle D. Simpson, Florida's first Black pediatrician, bringing her passion for serving families of all backgrounds in Miami. Her dedication to the community was unwavering—in 1995, she purchased the practice, ensuring its continuation as a cornerstone of pediatric care for all families in Miami-Dade County—regardless of their background, income, or insurance status.
Dr. Paschal believed that every child deserves excellent healthcare, and she treated each patient with the same compassion and expertise. Her legacy of inclusive, culturally competent care continues through her daughter, Dr. Rozalyn A. Paschal-Thomas.

Trailblazing Pioneer | First Board-Certified Black Pediatrician in Florida
Dr. Dazelle D. Simpson holds the distinguished honor of being Florida's first board-certified Black pediatrician, beginning her groundbreaking practice in 1953—a time when healthcare segregation was still legal in Florida. In an era of inequality, Dr. Simpson broke barriers to provide excellent pediatric care to all children who needed it.
For over six decades, Dr. Simpson served as a beacon of hope and healing for Miami's diverse community, treating children of all backgrounds with equal compassion and expertise. Her pioneering work established the foundation for what is now Miami's oldest continuously operating Black-owned pediatric practice—one that has always welcomed all families.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Simpson's contributions to pediatric medicine and community health have been recognized nationally. Her vision of inclusive, barrier-free healthcare continues to inspire our practice today—serving every child with the same excellence she demonstrated over 70 years ago.
